What happens when you realize the person you’ve been living as was shaped by other people’s opinions, expectations, and judgments?

In this episode, I begin with an ancient parable about a man who looks into a mirror, walks away, and immediately forgets his own face. His story introduces what I call “The Great Forgetting”—the moment we become so identified with what happened to us that we forget who we are beyond it.

Loss, betrayal, poverty, rejection, trauma, and failure can leave a lasting imprint, but they do not have the authority to define you. Together, we explore the difference between what happened and the meaning you gave it—and how that meaning can quietly shape your choices, behavior, and future.

We also uncover the hidden limitations of roles and labels, including the flattering ones like “the strong one,” “the successful one,” or “the one who holds everything together.” Those may describe a role you have played, but they are not the whole of who you are. The vehicle you travel through life in is not the driver.

I’ll share three signs that an old story may still be running your life: predicting your future from your past, dismissing evidence that challenges your old identity, and shrinking yourself to remain recognizable to others.

Most importantly, you’ll leave with practical tools to begin remembering who you truly are—including an identity audit, imagination as a form of rehearsal, and a simple five-minute morning practice to help you build a new identity through consistent action and evidence.

Your story may explain where you have been, but it does not get to decide where you are going.
