Becoming The Person Your Future Requires

Most people believe the key to changing their life is setting bigger goals, working harder, or finding the right opportunity. But what if the greatest obstacle isn't outside of you? What if it's the version of yourself you've been unconsciously carrying?
In this episode of Transformative Living Radio, we explore a powerful truth: your future doesn't simply require new habits—it requires a new identity.
We begin with the story of a sculptor who sees a masterpiece hidden inside a block of marble. His job isn't to create it from scratch, but to remove everything that doesn't belong. That story becomes a powerful metaphor for personal transformation. Perhaps your greatest work isn't becoming someone else. Perhaps it's uncovering the person you've always been beneath fear, self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and old conditioning.
Drawing from my own journey growing up in poverty in Camden, New Jersey, I share how external success alone could never heal an internal identity built around limitation. I learned that promotions don't automatically create confidence, achievement doesn't erase insecurity, and new opportunities cannot sustain an old self-concept. Real transformation begins when we intentionally become the person our future requires.
Together, we'll explore why identity matters more than motivation, why your future responds to who you're becoming—not just what you're pursuing—and how every decision you make shapes the person you're practicing to become.
I'll also walk you through seven practical strategies to help you intentionally create your new identity, including making decisions from your future self instead of your fears, building identity before chasing achievement, protecting your internal environment, creating daily evidence of growth, changing the way you speak about yourself, practicing emotional rehearsal, and learning to live from alignment instead of waiting for arrival.
If you've been searching for practical wisdom on personal transformation, identity, self-concept, mindset, leadership, emotional resilience, confidence, or intentional living, this conversation will encourage you to stop waiting for your circumstances to change and start becoming the person capable of creating the life you desire.

Welcome to Transformative Living Radio, where we explore the power of intentional change for personal growth and fulfillment. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. I want to start today's episode with a story I heard about a sculptor standing in front of a massive block of marble. Now, people gathered all around him admiring the stone, wondering what he intended to create. Finally, someone from the crowd asked him, How do you know what you're going to carve? The sculptor smiled and said, I don't create the masterpiece. I simply remove everything that doesn't belong. Now that's a very powerful statement because I think that's exactly how transformation works. You see, most
The Sculptor Metaphor For Change
SPEAKER_01people spend their lives trying to add confidence, add courage, add discipline, add success. But what if your greatest work isn't adding something to yourself? What if your greatest work is removing everything that no longer belongs? The fear, the limiting beliefs, the false identities, the emotional agreements you've carried since childhood. Maybe the person your future requires isn't someone you have to become, maybe it's someone you've been all along, waiting beneath the layers of conditioning. And that's what I want to explore today. Not how to become someone fake, not how to imitate someone else's success, but how to intentionally become the person your future requires. Because here's something I've learned. Your future isn't waiting for a better opportunity, it's waiting for a different version of you. And that realization changed my life. So if you're ready to explore how to become the person your future requires, grab a pen and a pad, and if you're ready, let's begin. Hello and welcome to another empowering episode of Transformative Living Radio. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. You know, when I was younger, I used to think that success would solve insecurity. I thought achievement would erase self-doubt. I even thought if I worked hard enough, accomplished enough, earned enough, then confidence would naturally appear. But the truth is, life taught me something different. You see, success can change your circumstances, but it cannot automatically change your identity. That's why you see people who accomplish incredible things yet secretly struggle with imposter syndrome. Or people who build businesses yet
Why Success Doesn’t Heal Identity
SPEAKER_01still feel inadequate. Or people who receive promotions continue questioning whether they deserve to be there. Why? Well, because circumstances change faster than identity. Eventually I realize every new level of life asks a question, and that is who must you become to sustain what you're asking for? Not what do you want, but who are you becoming? And that's a different question. Because the future doesn't respond only to vision, it responds to identity. Now, one of the biggest misconceptions about personal growth is believing our lives eventually catch up with our goals. In my life and through my experience, I found something different. You see, we rise or fall to the level of the identity we consistently practice. Goals inspire, but identity sustains. Vision motivates, but it's identity that determines behavior. You see, your future isn't built by occasional motivation, it's built by repeated identity. Every decision you're making today is casting a vote for the person you're becoming. Every conversation, every habit, every thought, every response, you're practicing someone. The question is, who? So why do most people never become their future self? Well, it isn't because they're incapable. It's because they continue consulting the old identity before making every decision. You see, the old self asks, What if I fail? The future self asks, What can I learn? The old self asks, What will people think? The future self asks, Am I living in alignment with my purpose? The old self seeks approval, but the future self seeks alignment. The old self protects comfort, but the future self embraces growth. Every day, both identities are inviting you to choose. So let me give you seven practical strategies for becoming the person your future requires.
Old Self Vs Future Self
SPEAKER_01Strategy number one is to make decisions from your future, not your fear. Before making any important decision, pause and ask, if I were already becoming the person I'm called to be, what decision would I make? Let your future self mentor your present self. Strategy number two is to build identity before achievement. What do I mean? Stop saying, I'll become confident when. Instead, ask, what would a confident person practice today? You see, identity comes first, results follow. Strategy number three is to protect your internal environment. Pay
Seven Strategies To Shift Identity
SPEAKER_01attention to what you're feeding your mind, the books you read, the conversations you engage in, the social media you're consuming, and the relationships you involve yourself in. You see, every environment reinforces an identity, so you must choose wisely. Strategy number four is to create daily evidence. What do I mean? Don't wait for the huge breakthroughs, collect the small wins. Every courageous conversation, every discipline action, every healthy boundary, every promise you keep yourself, these become evidence that your identity is changing. Strategy number five is to stop introducing yourself by your past. Notice how often people say things like, I'm just shy, I'm terrible with money, I'm always anxious, I'm not a leader. Now, those aren't descriptions, they're identity declarations. So start speaking from the person you're becoming. Strategy number six is to practice emotional rehearsal. Spend five quiet minutes each day asking, how does my future self think? How do they respond under pressure? How do they lead? How do they love? How do they recover from a setback? Once you can answer those questions, begin rehearsing the answers internally. Strategy number seven is to live from alignment instead of arrival. You see, on the journey of transformation, the goal isn't perfection, it's consistency. You see, you don't have to become the future version of yourself overnight. You simply have to keep making decisions that align with that future version. Eventually, consistency becomes character, character becomes identity, and identity becomes destiny. Now, as we wrap up this episode, I want to leave you with one final thought. When I look back over my own life, from the little boy growing up in Camden, to the young man battling insecurity, to becoming a leader, a coach, a speaker, I realized something. That none of those transformations happen because life suddenly got easier. They happen because little by little I stopped asking, what am I capable of doing? and started asking, who am I becoming? And that question changed everything for me. Because your future isn't asking you to become perfect, but it's asking you to become intentional. So today, don't just chase success, become the kind of person
Intentionality Over Perfection
SPEAKER_01who can carry it with humility. Don't just chase influence, become someone worthy of trust. Don't just pursue abundance, become someone who can steward it wisely. Because in the end, your greatest achievement won't be what you accomplish, it will be who you become in the process. Well, that's our show for today. We hope that this episode was both insightful and inspiring. And if today's conversation encouraged you, I'd love for you to share it with someone who's intentionally becoming a better version of themselves. And if you haven't already, download my free ebook, Standing in Your Own Authority. The link is in today's show notes.
