You can read every personal development book, save every mindset quote, and still feel like nothing is changing. I’m Andre Flax, and I’m calling out the subtle way our minds keep us “busy” with learning while we avoid the one thing that creates real self transformation: taking the step. The longer we plan, analyze, and wait for clarity, the more normal stuckness starts to feel.

We dig into a simple but powerful distinction: thinking transformation versus being transformed. Understanding ideas is useful, but it’s not the same as identity. When you keep saying “I’m trying” or “I’m working on it,” you may be reinforcing a life of effort without embodiment. When you shift to “This is who I am,” your choices begin to line up with that new standard. If the confident, disciplined, focused version of you already exists as a state you can step into, what changes about how you show up today?

I also walk you through four practical applications for intentional living: define the identity you need, claim it in the present, act from that identity immediately, and interrupt the old pattern when doubt shows up. You’ll leave with a concrete question you can use in the moment to reset your behavior and build momentum through action, not perfection.

If you’re ready to stop preparing and start becoming, press play, share this with a friend who’s stuck in “getting ready,” and subscribe. Then leave a review and tell me: what’s the one step you’re taking today?

Opening Journey Metaphor

Welcome to Transformative Living Radio, where we explore the power of intentional change for personal growth and fulfillment. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. I want you to imagine you're on a journey. You've got a clear destination in mind, a place you know you're meant to reach. So you prepare. You study the map, you read about the terrain, you listen to people who have taken the journey before you. You even start collecting tools, better gear, better strategies, better directions. And every day you tell yourself, I just want to make sure I'm fully ready to go. I don't want to take the wrong path. So let me just learn a little bit more first. So you stay where you are, planning, preparing, perfecting. Meanwhile, time keeps moving. And deep down inside, there's a quiet voice that keeps asking, When are you actually going to start walking? Because here's the truth. You can study the path all you want. You can prepare for every possible obstacle. You can gather all the right tools, but the journey doesn't. And if you really stick with that, you realize that the journey I'm talking about, well, that's your mind. So in today's episode, we want to talk about one powerful tip: the difference between thinking transformation and being transformed. In this episode, we're gonna unpack why constant learning can actually hold you back, the hidden trap of preparing instead of living, and how to step into the identity that already has what you want. So grab a pen and a pad, and if you're ready, let's begin. Hello and welcome to another empowering episode of Transformative Living Radio. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. Hey, let me ask you a question. How many books have you read on personal development? How many podcasts have you listened to? Or how many videos have you watched and yet there's still something in your life that hasn't shifted the way you wanted it to? Well, here's the truth. You see, most people aren't stuck because they don't know enough. They're stuck because they won't apply what they already know. You see, in our mind, it's very, very clever. It'll convince you that you're making progress when in reality you're just staying busy. You'll say things like, I'm working on myself, or I'm getting ready, or I just need a little bit more clarity. But what's really happening is this you're staying in a cycle of learning, analyzing, and preparing instead of deciding, embodying, and living. And the longer you stay in that cycle, the more normal it feels. Now let's take this a step deeper. Because transformation doesn't happen when you understand something. Transformation happens when you identify with it, when it becomes who you are versus not just something you're trying to do. Think about the difference in these two statements. Statement one, I'm trying to be more confident, versus statement two, I am a confident person. I'm learning how to express my confidence more consistently. Now the first statement is a statement of effort, and the second statement is a statement of identity, and your life will always move in the direction of who you believe you are. If you see yourself as someone who is, quote, working on it, you'll always be working on it. But when you shift into quote, this is who I am, everything begins to organize around that. So let me ask you something deeper. If you already knew the version of you who has the life you want, what would be different about how you show up today? How would you think? How would you speak? How would you move? Because that version of you is not waiting in the future, it exists as a state that you can step into right now. But here's the thing: most people hesitate. They look at their current reality and say things like, I'm not there yet. It doesn't look like it yet. I don't feel it yet. And without realizing it, they go right back to the starting line: holding the map, holding the plan, holding the intention, but not moving. So let's go back to the journey for a moment. Because this is where it becomes real. Imagine that same person still standing there, same destination, same desire, same potential, but now years have passed and they're still preparing, they're still thinking, and they're still waiting for the perfect moment. Meanwhile, someone else, less prepared, less certain, less ready, takes a step, and then another, and then another. They made mistakes, they adjusted. They've learned along the way, but they moved. And because they moved, they grew. So let's bring this into your life starting right now. Let me give you four practical applications that you can begin to use to start being versus seeking. Step number one is to define the identity. Now I want you to ask yourself a different type of question today. Not what do I need to do to get what I want, because that's the question that most people ask. And it keeps you stuck in action without alignment. Instead, I want you to ask yourself, who do I need to become to naturally have the life I say I want? Because your life is always reflecting back who you believe you are. So if you want a different result, you've got to start with a different identity. Now, don't rush to step. Sit with it. If it's confidence you're after, what does a confident version of you actually look like? How do they think? How do they carry themselves? How do they make decisions? If it's discipline, what does a disciplined version of you do consistently, not occasionally? Now, step one is about clarity, because you can't step into a version of yourself that you haven't clearly defined. Now, step number two is to claim it in the present. Now, once you've identified the identity, we're not going to put it into the future. We're not going to say things like, I'm working on becoming, I'm hoping to be, I'm trying to be. No, we're going to bring it into the present using I am. Now, I know for some of you that might feel uncomfortable because your mind is going to say, wait a minute, that's not true yet. But I want you to listen here. You're not lying to yourself, you're choosing a direction for your identity. You're deciding. This is who I am now, and I'm going to grow into it. So you start saying things like, I am confident, I am disciplined, I am focused, I am someone who follows through. And the more you say it, the more you start looking for ways to live it. Because your mind always tries to stay consistent with what you believe about yourself. Step number three is to act from the new identity immediately. Now here's where most people hesitate. They'll define it, they'll say it, but they won't move. And this is where the shift happens. You have to act from that identity now. Not next week, not when you feel more ready, not when everything lines up perfectly, but now. Because identity is not built through intention, it's built through action. So before the day ends, I want you to make one decision, just one, but I want you to make it from the version of you who already has what you want. Maybe it's a conversation you've been avoiding, maybe it's taking initiative instead of waiting, or maybe it's showing up with the level of confidence that you usually hold back on. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be aligned. Because every time you act from that identity, you reinforce it. Step number four is to interrupt the old pattern. Now let's be real for a moment. You're not gonna get this perfect. You're going to have moments where the old version of you shows up. The doubt, the hesitation, the second guessing, and that's normal. But here's what I don't want you to do. Don't sit there and analyze it. Don't beat yourself up. Don't spiral. Instead, I want you to interrupt it right in the moment. And the way to do that is to ask this one powerful question. And that is, what would the version of me who already has it do right now? And then follow that. Even if it feels uncomfortable, even if it feels unfamiliar. Because that discomfort, that's not a sign you're doing it wrong, that's a sign you're stepping out of the old identity and into the new one. And if you can do this consistently, not perfectly, but consistently, you're going to start to notice something. You're not just thinking differently, you're becoming someone different. Now, as we wrap up today's episode, I want to leave you with this thought. The journey you've been thinking about, planning for, preparing for, it's not waiting for more knowledge, it's waiting for you. The step you've been delaying is the step that changes everything. So, with that, here's the question I want you to sit with today. Where in my life am I still preparing instead of walking? And once you find that answer, take the step. And if you haven't already, make sure you download my free ebook entitled Standing in Your Own Authority. You can find the link in today's show notes. It's going to help you deepen this work and truly begin leading your life from within. So until the next time, keep growing, keep leading, and most importantly, stop waiting to become and start being. We'll see you next week.
