“The Barriers to Destiny: How We Block the Life We’re Meant to Live”
The moment you sense a larger life calling can feel both electric and paralyzing. You can see a truer version of yourself, yet an unseen grip keeps you from crossing the threshold. We unpack that tension with a clear framework for releasing inner barriers and stepping into a destiny shaped by consciousness, not circumstance.
We start by reframing destiny as a lived state you cultivate daily through beliefs, assumptions, and identity. Drawing on Neville Goddard’s core teaching that consciousness is the only reality, we examine four common blocks: the old identity you’ve outgrown, assumptions rooted in past pain, fear that dresses up as wisdom, and emotional memory that convinces you to stay small. You’ll hear how these forces distort perception, shrink imagination, and lower expectations—plus relatable examples of pulling back from opportunities in career, creativity, and love.
Then we move into practice. You’ll learn a four-step method to create real change without force: name the state you’ve been living in, challenge the assumptions propping it up, shift into a higher state using imagination, and support that state with aligned daily action. We share simple tools you can start today—an identity inventory, an assumption audit, a 60‑second destiny visualization, and small destiny actions that build momentum. The goal isn’t hustle; it’s coherence between who you are becoming and what you repeatedly do, so that your inner world and outer results begin to match.
If you’re ready to stop negotiating with fear and start training your attention toward a future you actually want, this conversation offers the mindset reframe and the micro-practices to get moving with calm confidence. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs this, and leave a review to tell us which barrier you’re releasing first.

Welcome to Transformative Living Radio, where we explore the power of intentional change for personal growth and fulfillment. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. In our last episode, we talked about how destiny isn't a single moment waiting for you in the distance. Destiny is something you shape every day through your consciousness, your beliefs, your assumptions, and the way you show up in the world. But today we're going to step into something deeper. Because even when you feel that whisper inside, that sense that more is calling you, even when you can imagine a bigger, bolder, more aligned version of your life, there's often a part of you that hesitates. A part of you that says, Am I truly ready? Is this truly for me? What if I try and fall short? What if I open my heart and get hurt again? Now we've all been there. Destiny feels close, almost close enough to touch. But something inside creates distance. So in today's episode, we want to explore these barriers, not to shame ourselves, but to understand ourselves. Not to blame our past, but to free our future. So if you're ready to discover what's been keeping you from stepping into the destiny you were created to live, grab a pen and a pad, and if you're ready, let's begin. Hello and welcome to another empowering episode of Transformative Living Radio. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. In our last episode, we talked about how destiny isn't a single moment waiting for you in the distance. Destiny is something we shape every day through our consciousness, beliefs, assumptions, and the way we show up in the world. Yet in each of us, there are barriers that seek to block the very life we were meant to live. So as we continue in episode two of a four-part series on personal destiny, I want to explore the barriers that keep us from truly stepping into our destiny. So let's begin with a moment every human being eventually reaches. It's that quiet point in life where you look around and think, I thought I'd be further by now. Or I know there's more in me, I just don't know how to access it. Or I can feel a new chapter calling me, but I can't seem to move toward it. Now it's not shame, it's not regret, and it's not even disappointment, it's awareness, a sacred kind of restlessness, a whisper inside that says, There is more for you. But even with that whisper, something inside often holds us back. It's like standing at the door of your own destiny, hand on the handle, but you can't turn it. This in-between space, between the life you lived and the life calling you forward, is exactly what Neville Godd understood better than almost anyone. You see, Neville Godd was a spiritual teacher, a mystic who was born in Barbados in 1905, whose teaching centered around one powerful truth, and that was your consciousness is the only reality. Not your past, not your limitations, not your mistakes, not your fears, not even your circumstances, your inner state, which is the beliefs you carry, the assumptions you entertain, the identity you inhabit. That's what shapes your destiny. This is why his teachings are so relevant today. You see, we live in a world filled with noise, pressure, comparisons, and distraction. A world that constantly tries to convince us that our destiny is determined by what's happening all around us. Neville reminds us that destiny begins within us. So when you feel that longing for more, but something inside hesitates, Neville would say, you're standing at the edge of a new state, a new destiny, but the barriers of your old consciousness haven't released their grip. So let's talk about those barriers. The invisible forces that shape our inner world and keep us from crossing over the threshold into our new chapter. Barrier number one is the old identity we've outgrown. One of the biggest reasons we hesitate at the door of destiny is because we often see ourselves through an outdated identity. Maybe you've been living as the one who plays it safe, the one who doesn't rock the boat, the one who supports everyone else but never steps forward, the quiet one, the strong one who never shows vulnerability, or the overachiever who hides their insecurities behind performance. Now Neville would say, quote, you cannot create a new destiny from an old state. And what that means is if your identity hasn't elevated, your destiny cannot expand. Now, barrier number two are assumptions rooted in past pain. For example, you imagine something good for your life, but instantly you shut it down. You hear this quiet voice say, Don't get your hopes up high. That's too big for you, or you know how life goes. Now these are not truths, they're assumptions born from old wounds. Nebel Godd taught that assumptions create reality, even the assumptions that are false. If you were disappointed in the past, abandon, overlook, or even let down, your subconscious mind may have adopted beliefs like good things don't last, dreams fall apart, people always leave, life doesn't work out for me. Now these assumptions become barriers that keep destiny out of reach. Barrier number three is fear disguised as wisdom. Now I want you to picture this. You're offered a real opportunity, a chance to grow, expand, and to step into something new. And suddenly your mind floods with a reason to stay right where you are. You hear this little voice say, What if I fail? What if I'm not good enough? What if I lose what I already have? Maybe now's not the right time. You see, fear always pretends to be wisdom when our destiny is near. You see, fear is simply imagination used against yourself. It's a vivid image of an unwanted future disguised as, quote, being realistic. Barrier number four is an emotional memory holding you back. Now let's face it, we all want to try again. We all want to believe again. We all want to open our hearts again, but our bodies remember the disappointment, our minds remember the setbacks, and so often our hearts remember the pain. You see, destiny can open the door for you, but an emotional memory can convince you you're safer staying where you are. Neville Goddard taught that the past only continues when we keep feeding it with imagination and belief. You see, it's not the memory that holds you back, it's the meaning you attach to it. Now, before we move on, I want you to take a deep breath and ask yourself gently, which barrier rises in me the moment I try to step into my next chapter? My old identity, my painful assumptions, my fear, or my emotional memories. You see, these barriers don't just block opportunities, they actually block the state of consciousness required to even recognize opportunities. Let me break it down for you. One, they distort your perception. You literally stop seeing what's possible. Two, they shrink your imagination, you stop dreaming boldly and start dreaming small. Three, they lower your expectations, you begin to expect less from yourself and from life. Four, they slow emotional momentum, you get stuck in living from the same state year after year. And five, they cause you to settle. Not because you want to, but because you no longer expect more. And this shows up in the most universal ways. Let me give you a few examples of what I mean. Someone sees a job posting that excites them. They start the application process and then they talk themselves out of it. Destiny reached out, but fear pulled them back. Here's another example. Someone longs for deep connection, but every time someone tries to get close, they pull away. Destiny tries to offer love, but emotional memory kept the heart guarded. Here's a third example. Someone feels called to write a book or paint, speak, or build, but then they say within themselves, Who am I to do that? Destiny gave them the desire, but assumption suffocated it. So how do we actually break through these barriers? Well, let me give you four powerful steps that can help you break through these barriers, not forcefully, but consciously, compassionately, and in a transformative way. Step number one, name the state you've been living in. Every breakthrough begins with an honest awareness. For most of us, we walk through life acting as an identity we never consciously chose. Maybe you've been living as the overthinker or the helper who never asks for help, the one who hides their brilliance, or the one who expects disappointment, and finally the one who must be strong. Now these identities might have protected you once, but they cannot carry you into your true destiny. Naming the state does two powerful things for you. One, it breaks the spell of unconscious living. As soon as you name the pattern, you're no longer trapped inside of it. Two, it separates you from the state. You see, you are not the identity, you are the consciousness occupying it. The moment you see the old identity, you gain the ability to step out of it. Now, step number two is to challenge the assumption behind it. You see, every limiting identity is held up by a limiting belief. Assumptions like I'm not good enough, good things don't last, people always leave, and dreams don't work out for me. Neville teaches that assumptions create destiny, even the wrong assumptions. So in challenging your assumptions, ask yourself these three questions. One, where did the belief come from? Who handed it to you? Was it a parent, a teacher? Was it a breakup? A failure? Number two, is this belief actually true or is it simply familiar? And number three, what would my life look like without the assumption? That question alone can change the trajectory of your destiny. Now, step three is to shift into a higher state of using your imagination. Now, this is the heart of Neville's work. You see, you don't fight the old state, you rise above it by stepping into a new one. Imagination is not an escape, it's construction. So close your eyes and step into the version of yourself who has already crossed over the threshold. Now, as you imagine this new version of yourself, take note at how he or she walks, how they speak, what do they expect from life, what do they no longer tolerate, and how do they respond to challenges? You see, Nebel Goddard teaches, quote, assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled, end quote. Don't just think it, feel it. Because once you feel it, your inner world shifts, your state elevates, your destiny begins to rearrange itself. Now, step number four in this process is to support the new state with aligned action. You see, imagination creates the state, action, however, sustains it. Not dramatic action, not even pressured action, but just aligned action. Every morning you should ask yourself, what is one small action my future self would take today? Maybe they would send a message, apply for a position, make the call, rest without guilt, set boundaries, speak up at the job, start a new project, or release what's no longer aligned. You see, every aligned action reinforces, quote, I am no longer who I used to be, end quote. And then destiny begins to respond. Now, as we wrap up this episode, I want to leave you with this truth. You are not defined by the barriers you've inherited or the ones you've built. You are defined by the destiny that keeps calling you. Your barriers aren't a sign you're failing, they're a sign you're growing beyond who you used to be. So, with that said, let me give you four tools you could start using today. Number one, identity inventory. Write down the roles you've been unconsciously living in. Number two, do an assumption audit. List the beliefs that have been shaping your limits and then question each one. Number three is to do a 60-second destiny visualization exercise. Once a day, close your eyes and step into the version of you living the life you desire. And number four, take daily destiny actions. These are small aligned steps each day.
