The Power of I AM - Reclaim Your Identity and Create A Life You Love
Your words create your world—particularly the two that define your identity. What comes after "I am" forms the silent blueprint guiding how you think, act, and experience life itself. But what happens when those powerful words become limitations rather than launchpads?
Drawing inspiration from David Allen's transformative book "The Power of I Am," this episode uncovers how our subconscious mind treats these simple declarations as commands, filtering reality to match whatever we claim identity with. Most startlingly, many of the limiting beliefs we carry started as someone else's opinion that we've unknowingly adopted as truth about ourselves.
The good news? This pattern can be disrupted today. Through practical bridge statements that honor both your current reality and growth potential, you can begin rewriting your internal script. Rather than unrealistic affirmations, we explore authentic language that creates momentum toward the person you're becoming. You'll discover three powerful daily rituals: mirror work where you speak empowering truths while looking into your own eyes, identity journaling to document who you're becoming, and a simple five-minute meditation practice that allows new beliefs to settle into your nervous system.
The episode culminates with guidance on creating your personal "I Am Manifesto"—a declaration of your highest self that serves as a daily reminder of your power, purpose and potential. Andre even shares portions of his own manifesto, demonstrating how these principles have shaped his life and leadership.
Your words have power, but your "I ams" shape your world. Take back control, speak intentionally, and remember that no matter where you've been or what you've believed—your identity is yours to define. Ready to transform your inner dialogue and outer reality? Your journey begins with two simple words.

Today's episode is all about two of the most powerful words you'll ever speak. I am Now. You might be thinking. Really two words, but stay with me, because these two simple words are like seeds what you say after I am creates the reality you live in. Inspired by David Allen's transformative book the Power of I Am, we're exploring how the identities we claim with those two little words can either build the life we want or quietly hold us back from it. So if you're ready, let's begin. Hello and welcome to another episode of Transformative Living Radio. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach.
Speaker 1:Let me ask you something. Have you ever looked into the mirror and said something to yourself that stung just a little bit too much? Things like I'm not good enough, or I'm a failure, or I'm broken? If you've ever whispered those words, whether in pain, frustration or defeat, you're not alone. You see, we've all carried invisible labels. We didn't choose absorbing judgments from others and echoing them as if they were the truth. But what if I told you that you have the power to rewrite those labels, that you could use the same two words I am to redefine who you are and who you're becoming. Find who you are and who you're becoming.
Speaker 1:In today's episode, we're diving deep into the life-changing ideas behind David Allen's powerful book the Power of I Am. Now, this isn't about hype or surface-level affirmations. It's about stepping into your truest identity and reshaping your life from the inside out. Now we're going to break this episode down into five parts Part one, why the words I am shape your identity and outcomes. Part two, how negative I am. Statements quietly limit your life. Part three, how to rewrite your own personal narrative. Part four, how daily I am rituals reinforce your new identity. And finally, part five, how to create your own I am manifesto for life and leadership.
Speaker 1:Let's dig in Now. The two words I am isn't just a phrase. It's a command to your brain and your subconscious mind. It's the blueprint you're constantly handing to your identity. David Allen shares that. What follows I am becomes an internal script. Whether you're aware of it or not, that script is guiding how you think, how you act and how you react and show up in the world. And here's the science behind it.
Speaker 1:The brain wants congruency. Once it accepts a belief, especially a belief about you, it will filter the world to match that belief. That's why when you say I'm anxious, your body reacts accordingly. When you say I'm capable, your confidence responds. You see, every I am statement is like a seed. So the question becomes what are you planting?
Speaker 1:Now, most people don't realize how often they're planting weeds instead of flowers. You hear people say I'm bad with people, or I'm just unlucky, or I'm not smart enough, I'm too old to change, or I'm not worthy. These statements often masquerade as facts, but they're not. They're beliefs, stories we've picked up from past failures, harsh voices or painful moments, and the more we repeat them, the more permanent they feel. But just because you repeat something over and over again doesn't mean it's true. One of the biggest breakthroughs that you can experience is to realize that most of the limiting beliefs that you have started as someone else's opinion and you've unknowingly adopted them as identity. But that can stop right now. This is where the transformation begins. You see, if a negative I am statement creates your limitations, the new I am statement can create your freedom. But it's not a fake. It till you make it kind of way. It's a grounded and authentic way that honors your potential.
Speaker 1:David Allen recommends using bridge statements, language that reflects growth, not perfection. So, instead of saying I'm fearless when you don't feel that way, say I'm learning to act in spite of my fear. Instead of saying I'm successful when you're struggling financially, say I'm becoming someone who creates abundance. Let me give you a quick exercise Write down three negative I am beliefs that keep showing up in your life. Three negative I am beliefs that keep showing up in your life. For each one, write a new statement that feels true and empowering. Speak those new truths into your life daily. This simple shift has the power to change the way you feel, think and show up in everyday life. Now, your beliefs aren't built in a moment. They're built through repetition. That's why incorporating daily I Am rituals is one of the most powerful things you can do to reprogram your inner dialogue.
Speaker 1:Here are three I Am rituals that David Allen suggests that you incorporate in your daily life Now. The first daily I Am ritual would be to stand in front of a mirror. Look yourself in the eye. Ritual would be to stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye and say three empowering I am statements out loud with feeling. Now. It might feel silly at first, but trust me, it works.
Speaker 1:The second daily I am ritual is to journalize your identity. Every morning or evening, write five I am statements that align with the person you're becoming. It might be statements like I am strong, I am focused, I am discerning, I am thoughtful, I am kind, I am creative, I am happy, I am joyous. Whatever the statement is, it should identify with the person that you aspire to become. Now, the third daily I am ritual is to create what is known as an I am mantra meditation. Now, this meditation would probably take about five minutes. Simply close your eyes, breathe in deeply and repeat a single word or phrase such as I am enough. Let the truth of that word settle in your nervous system. Now, the goal in doing the daily I am rituals is to build identity momentum. So every day, you're reminding your mind and your body of who you really are. Finally, let's take it one step further by creating your own I am manifesto.
Speaker 1:Now, an I Manifesto is a personal decoration of your identity, your values and your vision. It's a daily reminder of your power, your purpose and potential. So here's how to create one Write down 10 to 15. I Am statements that represent your highest self. Two include who you are, what you stand for and how you lead your life. And then three read it every morning, tape it to your wall and let it guide your decisions. So let me share my own. I Am Manifesto that I created with music. Hope you enjoy it.
Speaker 1:These are the things that I choose to believe. I am one with God. I am strong. I am focused. I am wise and smart. I am discerning. I am thoughtful. I am creative. I am happy. I am joyous. I am generous. I am compassionate. I am patient. I am kind. I am coachable. I am generous. I am compassionate. I am patient. I am kind. I am coachable. I am loving. I am passionate. I am healthy and vibrant. I am rich. I am wealthy. I am a great leader. Now, that was just a small portion of my own. I am manifesto, and it's something that I listen to every morning on my way to work and, at times, on my way back from work or right before I go to bed.
Speaker 1:Now, as we wrap up this episode, let me leave you with this thought your words have power, but your I am's. They shape your world. So today I want you to take back control.
