Maybe it's a nagging voice saying you're not good enough, or a belief that success is for other people. Or perhaps it's the belief that you're too old, too young, or a belief that success is for other people, or perhaps it's the belief that you're too old, too young or too whatever. Now, what if I told you that these thoughts and feelings were all rooted in your own self-concept? Would you believe it? In today's episode, we'll uncover seven strategies to break free from the limiting beliefs that keep us stuck and discover how to maintain this mental freedom so we can experience the life we desire. So if you're ready, let's begin.
Speaker 1:Hello and welcome to another episode of Transformative Living Radio. I'm Andre Flax, your host and certified life and leadership coach. Now, I was listening to a lecture the other day given by Neville Goddard, who was a motivational writer, speaker and mystic who taught about the power of the subconscious mind and how to use our imagination to turn our dreams into reality. Now, the title of the lecture was quote you are in prison only by your concept of yourself. Now, I was so inspired by the lecture. I wanted to share some of the concepts and ideas that were taught in the lecture and, at the same time, provide seven strategies that we could use to help us break free from the limiting beliefs that keep us stuck and imprisoned from living the life we desire.
Speaker 1:To begin with, let's start by understanding what limiting beliefs are and how to identify them. Limiting beliefs are negative thoughts that tend to hold us back, thoughts like I'm too old or I'm not smart enough, or people like me don't succeed. These beliefs aren't necessarily true. They are beliefs that we've picked up from our past, from our environment or even from our past failures. Neville Goddard put it this way our real beliefs are what we live by, what we believe and what we know are all one in the same, in other words. What we generally believe about ourselves shapes how we experience the world, whether we realize it or not. The good news is is that we have the power to change these beliefs and rewrite the story of our lives. How, you might ask. Well, that's where today's strategies come in, so let me break them down.
Speaker 1:The first strategy is to identify the limiting beliefs that might be holding you back. Awareness is the first step and the most profound of the seven strategies. You see, we can't fix what we can't identify as broken. This strategy requires us to take time to get quiet and reflect on where we might feel stuck in our lives. Is it career, or Is it relationship, health or finance? Write down those areas and ask yourself what beliefs might be driving this. For example, maybe you're dissatisfied with your current career and feel you're ready to step out and start your own business. However, you remain stuck in the same career year after year. Is it because you don't believe you can succeed? Or maybe your business ideal will fail? Once you identify the belief, you can start to change it. Awareness is the flashlight that helps us see the secret chains we might be carrying.
Speaker 1:Once we can identify those limiting beliefs, the next step is to rewrite our self-concept. The next step is to rewrite our self-concept. Neville Goddard said it this way change your concept of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live. Now I found this principle to be true in my own life. Looking back on my life as a teenager growing up in the inner city, my conception of myself was heavily influenced by my environment and the messages I received from family and friends. Throughout my high school and even in college, I found myself discounting my gifts and talents because of my negative self-concept. It wasn't until I was able to identify the limiting beliefs and the negative mental programs and began rewriting my self-concept that I was able to experience life from a more positive perspective. Here's an exercise you can use to help you rewrite your own self-concept. Imagine you're writing a bio of your future self, the version of you who has already achieved its goals. What does it say? If you've been telling yourself I'm not good enough, replace it with I am more than enough and have all the resources I need to be successful and achieve the goals I set. Write down your new self-concepts and revisit them on a daily basis. Remember how you see yourself sets the tone for how the world sees you.
Speaker 1:Strategy number three is visualization. Now I did a whole episode on visualization and I encourage you to go back and listen to it. Neville Goddard also mentioned visualization in his lectures, teaching that the key to actualizing the things we want is to visualize it with feeling. This means that it's not enough just to imagine or envision your goals. You need to feel as though they're already real. Try this quick visualization exercise. If you're in a safe place to do so, close your eyes and picture yourself living your dream. If it's financial freedom, imagine looking at your current bank account with the desired amount you want. Feel the excitement and relief as if the money is already in your account right now. This exercise does feel awkward at first because we don't tend to use our imagination consciously this way. However, our brain does this constantly at the subconscious level, but usually it's in the negative frame, believe it or not. Whenever our brain starts to think about the worst-case scenarios, we begin to imagine things with feeling. These feelings then lead to the fear and anxiety we experience. The key, then, is to switch from imagining what we don't want to imagining what we desire, with feeling.
Speaker 1:Strategy number four is to embrace the power of I am. You see, language is powerful and the words I am are the most powerful of all because they shape our identity, are the most powerful of all because they shape our identity. Every time we say I am, we're actually sending commands to our subconscious mind to produce whatever we say after I am. So let's flip the script. Instead of saying I am unlucky, try I'm attracting opportunities every day. Instead of saying I'm bad at relationships, try I'm deserving of love and connection. Write down your new I am statements and repeat them to yourself every morning. Remember repetition is the mother of mastery. Say your new I am statements with conviction and in time, you will soon embody them.
Speaker 1:Now the fifth strategy for breaking free from limiting beliefs is challenging negative thoughts. Whenever negative thoughts pop up in your head, ask yourself this powerful question Is this really true? You'll find most of the time, it's not Just a story. We've told ourselves for so long that it feels true. For example, if you think I'm not marriage material, ask yourself why not Break. It feels true. For example, if you think I'm not marriage material, ask yourself why not Break it down. Logically, you'll often find that most of your negative thoughts have no merit at all. When we challenge our negative thoughts. It's like pulling weeds from a garden it clears space for us to plant new, empowering thoughts, for them to grow.
Speaker 1:Now, to solidify any new belief, it requires inspired action. You see, faith without action is just fantasy. So strategy number six is to take inspired action towards your new beliefs. For example, if you've been telling yourself you can't get in shape, take one small step by taking a 15-minute walk or swapping out a sweet snack for more healthy fruit. Each action you take consistently reinforces your belief of what's possible.
Speaker 1:Now, strategy number seven is to surround yourself with growth-minded people. It is said that we are the average of the five people we spend most of our time with, so it's really important to surround yourself with people who uplift, inspire and challenge you. Join a mastermind group, find a life coach or mentor, or connect with family and friends who inspire you. As we wrap up this episode, let's recap the seven strategies Awareness, rewriting your self-concept, visualization, embracing the power of I am challenging negative thoughts, taking inspired action and surrounding yourself with growth-minded people. These seven strategies, if practiced consistently, will help you transform your life and break the chains of limiting beliefs, allowing you to experience more of the life you desire.
